I was raised on a farm in central Arkansas where animals were around to earn their keep, not become a part of the family. I always loved them but never formed any type of close bond.
Four years ago a guy came along who swept me off my feet - and right behind him was Jackson. Jackson had been his companion and buddy since he was a tiny puppy and now, 11 years later, they are inseparable. At first I wasn't sure what to think about his 90-lb baby but it wasn't very long before Jackson's big eyes and - yes, winning personality (I didn't know dogs could have personalities!) - turned me into a proud dog momma!
At 11 years old, he's getting an adorable gray beard and enjoying more and more naps. You don't want to think about when you'll have to part, but I discovered someone who creates beautiful oil portraits from photographs and had him painted (see my photos). This is one of the best things I've done - we'll have Jackson forever in our home. (If you want the name of the person for a painting, just comment on this blog and I'll send it to you!)
I've been snowed in by myself all week - but it hasn't been so lonely. Having lived alone as a single gal for years, I love having this attentive Weimaraner friend here with me. He's always by my side, sleeping at my feet, watching TV with me, I (hate to admit it) even let him jump onto the foot of the bed last night since it was so cold!
It took some convincing to get him to go outside - he HATES cold weather! And now I think he's getting as much cabin fever as I am since he's used to going on a "Bye Bye" every day. (Good thing I'm typing this because he would get so excited if he heard those two words!)
Please share photos of your pet "kids" and how they've reacted to the snow this week! Love to hear!
