Take the Back Way Home...

Today I took the back way home. Driving past the quiet little houses  (some of them really, really old but well-kept, like maybe somebody's Gramma lives there) on the country road and the autumn colored trees I settled into reflection.

I love my job. In fact, I love it so much that sometimes I obsess, stress and let it consume so much of my thoughts and time that it sometimes turns into something a job should not - the center of my life. We're supposed to work to live, not live to work, right? When you're excited about what you do, or are working diligently towards a goal, or even just working hard to be successful you can let the scales of priority tip and get just a little lop-sided.

It's easy to take the quick bypass route home (in traffic that if anything ads to your hurried state of mind...)to rush from responsibility to responsibility, all under the earnest desire to get ahead and reap rewards for your hard work. Sometimes we just need to take the scenic route and appreciate LIFE! Exhale from a long day of focused hard work and remember to switch gears and appreciate what we work so hard for… a peaceful home refuge of love and family seeking our full attention and affection.

What's the old anthem of "Work Hard, Play Hard" that I heard so often growing up? A good one to not forget. If you have to put in extra time, put it in! Just save some for the things that are most important. Sometimes a country drive where it's a little slower paced reminds me to give it my all in work but to let it go on the way home and deposit my time and attention into the fund that will pay off in much greater rewards...
