I haven't always been a pet person… other than a small beta fish in my pre-teens that had a very short lifespan (probably due to it's owner, poor thing) we didn't have house pets growing up.
Good morning! Since most schools are closed, hopefully you're home with a cup of hot chocolate or maybe pitching a snowball or two at the neighbor! If you have to venture out, most major roads are fine, but be careful on side roads and in parking lots since there are still a lot of slick spots. Road with a lot of shade still have some pretty big sheets of ice. So just be careful and - enjoy your snowday Friday!
So Christmas is Saturday and I have yet to buy Christmas presents. The adjustment to a full time job while trying to maintain life as a full time single mom has proven to be quite the challenge.
Ok, It is already December and I am totally unprepared for Christmas. The bright one that Iam, (NOT) picked up a few Christmas gifts the other day while I was at Wal Mart. I was in a hurry, as usual, and I just threw the cold stuff in the refrigerator and left all of the other bags on the floor.
When my band, Oreo Blue, released its last original CD in 2007 I was optimistic that it would garner positive responses and sell well. What I did not expect was the amount of introspective feedback regarding one particular song. I received dozens of e-mails and online comments on the "540 Song" from the “Oreo Blue-The Trio” CD about what the song means.

Picture a beautiful, sunny November afternoon on the historic Boston Common…. now add over 100 doctors in their white coats and running shoes walking the perimeter of the park while being led by the U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Regina Benjamin.
I think one of the hardest things about being a mom is the guilt you have when you think you are being a bad mom. I recently went back to work after being a stay at home mom for 7 years. My life has gone from somewhat organized and relaxed to mixed up and always on the move. I am not complaining, I love my new job.
If you missed the first annual Unzipped fashion event don't worry - we have the scoop, photos and video so you haven't missed out completely! Guests were called to action to participate in supporting US Armed Forces veterans through the Seven Hills Homeless Center
I know it is a little early to talk about Christmas, we haven’t even had Thanksgiving yet, but for those of us that are “planners” we have been thinking about Christmas gifts for the last few months. It’s true I have already bought several gifts, but I still have plenty more to buy. A great gift idea is to help someone start a family tradition.
Today I took the back way home. Driving past the quiet little houses (some of them really, really old but well-kept, like maybe somebody's Gramma lives there) on the country road and the autumn colored trees I settled into reflection.
I suppose my last blog was a little wordy, but my inner writer is Jonesing to get these thoughts and stories out of my head. Our entertainment community is just so fascinating and I actually have so much to learn. I have lined up a few interviews which should reveal some great entertainment blogs in the near future. One thing I learned this past Sunday was that our tight-knit musicians’ community is tighter than I had previously thought.
When I was around 9 years old and started learning how to play the drums, I was exposed first to jazz and big band. My mother bought for me my first LP record which featured The Magnificent Tommy Flanagan with the great Al Foster on drums. Of course, I had no idea who Tommy Flanagan was (he was a jazz pianist…a really good one), and I also had no clue who Al Foster was (now a legend in the jazz drumming world).
It didn’t take me long to have that LP record past a few thousand rotations on my little turntable; headphones on; drumming along. And I still couldn’t figure out what Al Foster was doing. But the experience of listening and learning was invaluable. I am not sure what my mother paid for that record, but pretty sure it was picked up at a neighbor’s yard sale for something like a quarter.

Today I read a post on Facebook written by a friend that lost her teenage daughter 4 years ago.
The pain that is deep in her soul breaks my heart. How does one deal with the loss of a child?
The day we discover we are pregnant our entire existence changes. We are no longer on this earth for just ourselves. We have made a commitment to raise and love another human being in a way that only a parent can understand. We have hopes, dreams, and great expectations of what our children will become and what they will accomplish in their lives. The idea of not seeing them reach those is terrifying. I never feared death until the day I gave birth to my first child. From that day forward I became afraid of anything that could possible take me away from him or him away from me. Love for your child is the deepest most sincere emotion you will ever experience. How do you make it through this life when someone you cherish and love more than life is taken away from you?
Job description: 24 hour 7 days a week emotional roller coaster, that will challenge you physically and mentally. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs of dead weight at any given time. Yeah that’s right, it is not a job for the weak or faint of heart, but it is the most rewarding job on the planet. Everyday you wake up and you look into the eyes of your beautiful precious children and you will know that the income you receive in the form of unconditional love is priceless.

Facebook is officially my new social assistant.
Thursday of last week I jumped on facebook to check my feed and "Fashion's Night Out" popped up… how could I miss a night of "Fashion, treats, and drinks…" at the Shoppes at Pinnacle Hills? Since I live in Fayetteville, I hadn't seen any of their handy little flyers around and would've completely missed it had someone not posted it to facebook. Once again, a reason to appreciate facebook as your news feed for what's happening around Northwest Arkansas!
So after work I zipped up to Rogers to check it all out.
Sizing Things Up…
Even under the gargantuan shadow of the world’s largest retailer, Northwest Arkansas has been held as a “best-kept secret” for many of us that live here. None of the towns in Northwest Arkansas top the 100,000 population mark and even our Fayetteville-Springdale-

Facebook is the great equalizer.
By now everyone knows that Facebook has over 500 million users. You also know how important Facebook has become to nearly everyone's online browsing. However, very few companies are presenting their brand image in a modern, user-friendly way.
First impressions are everything.
Don't miss an excellent opportunity. Facebook users enjoy checking out business that their friends "like" or "share". But if you're fanpage isn't displaying your products, services, and what makes you stand out, how can you convert casual browsers into actual customers?
Congratulations go out to El Sancho Mexican Grill & Tequila Bar on Dickson for their feature in CitiScapes Magazine this month! Check out page 84 of the October 2010 issue for the low-down on the latest Dickson Hotspot!
Praised as "Edible debauchery..." and told to be a "quick and affordable lunch destination" with free parking for lunch time guests, El Sancho is part of the La Huerta family of restaurants which we all know and love.
Nothing like a clear October day in Northwest Arkansas - it's a perfect 69 degrees with the sun shining it's brightest. Met my sister for lunch and as Margaret Mead said,
"What's the good of news if you haven't a sister to share it?"
Nothing is quite as exciting until I've filled her in on it. We just joined forces here at goNWA.com with Dylan Ralston, owner of Hook & Reel designs - a social media guru.
So we caught up over sushi and a spectacular view of Fayetteville from the patio of Shogun. Check out their website which was designed by our very own Dylan Ralston and let us know if you need one too!
The Uncrowned Kings have arrived.
The Uncrowned Kings made their full band debut at George's Majestic Lounge on Friday, September 24, 2010. Look for the Uncrowned Kings to set fire to the main stage at Bikes Blues BBQ on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at 4:30pm CST.
There are things that we all just LOVE about Northwest Arkansas. Like making your way to a familiar patio on a perfect evening. Or exploring one of the constant reminders of an optimistic Northwest Arkansas economy - a new spot. Tonight, the first evening of Fall, TJ (my husband) and I made our way to Dickson Street in Fayetteville for a laid back patio dinner.
Not really sure where we'd end up, we spotted Hammontree's Grilled Cheese and made it our dinner choice. If you haven't checked them out yet, you need to. A fresh take, they make from scratch soups, gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and gourmet hot dogs (they also offer organic salads).
As a woman, you know special things happen when you’re with your girls. There’s something renewing that happens when you’re with your close circle of women friends who you admire, respect and love. How about a big circle. Like over 1,200 circle.
